Pamplona
Pamplona (Iruña in Basque), the capital of Navarra, has a citadel, cathedral, and an attractive old quarter. But the city is most known for the 'running of the bulls' of the San Fermín Festival, immortalized by Ernest Hemingway in his novel The Sun Also Rises. The bulls run through the crowded city streets first thing in the morning, they are featured in the afternoon bullfights, and wild partying lasts all night. The festival is held from July 6th to 14th every year.
The town of Olite makes for an excellent day-trip from Pamplona. Its medieval castle features turrets, towers, royal rooms, and a church.
